Message from the Head
Headteacher - Mrs Fiona SingletonI would like to extend a warm welcome to prospective parents, pupils, staff members and friends of St Johns. It’s great to see our website, and I do hope that you find that it gives you an informed insight into the life of St John’s School Community.

As Headteacher for six years, the school team and I continue to work hard to ensure that each child achieves his/her fullest potential. Our current building plans for a designated Early Years building will certainly enhance learning possibilities for our youngest entrants, and re-define our existing school space. Additionally our strong partnerships with the parent community and external agencies ensure that our extended school continues to provide creative, enriching and exciting learning possibilities.

Whats New at St John's
Deputy Headteacher - Mrs Lydia BahiRecently, we had quite a significant event in the life of St John's Primary School, where we celebrated the 200th anniversary of Church School Education, and the history of our school. In a special 'Light of Christ' assembly, we recieved delivery of a candle, which is making its journey around all 149 church school in the Diocese of London. It was truly thrilling to see some of our ex-pupils from Raines Foundation, who carried the grand candle over from their school. We were particularly honoured to have the presence of the recently appointed Bishop of Stepney, the Right reverend Adrian Newman, who gave a special blessing to the whole school community. Our pupils, as usual, made us proud with beautiful singing from the entire school, not forgetting our Parents' Choir, who sang a spiritually uplifting rendition of 'Here I am to worship.' Lydia Bahi - Deputy Head Teacher

Club Spotlight

The Busy Bees Club

The Busy Bees club meets each Tuesday lunchtime, and is run by Miss Spencer. Miss Spencer, who is a Guides and Rangers Leader in Redbridge, runs the club on principles similar to the Brownies, of helping others.

Each term, the Busy Bees undertake different tasks which will facilitate an area of school life. To date the group have designed Christmas cards for the Headteacher; produced key messages for good practice in the school library, and produced a tile mosiac on a bare wall in the playground. The Busy Bees are currently designing an altar cloth for school collective worship.

Homework

At St John’s School, we believe that the skill of reading is paramount to the success of our pupils as learners. It is through reading that our children can discover and access the diversity of the curriculum, as well as unlock their imagination and discover hidden worlds. It is our goal that all our children leave St John’s as skilled readers being able to use this as a tool to optimise their innate potential as learners.

It is for these reasons that our main homework task across the school is reading.  Each night children in each class are given fiction or non-fiction texts to read, along with a clear reading focus. On return to school, the children spend time discussing what they have read in mini reading groups.  For more information about our curriculum. Please see our School Info page.
